Air traffic controller recordings have shown the pilot of Kobe Bryant's ill-fated helicopter was flying too low to be monitored in fog before it crashed, killing everyone on board.
The weather was so foggy that the Los Angeles Police Department and the county sheriff's department had grounded their own choppers.
However, Kobe's pilot had asked for and received special clearance to fly in heavy fog just minutes before the crash on Sunday morning.
Several aviation experts have said it is not uncommon for helicopter pilots to be given such permission.
Coroner's investigators said yesterday that they had recovered three bodies from the crash site and were searching for more remains.
The 9 victims of the crash were identified yesterday.
