If you need some stuff — a new thrift shop that opened last week in the former Goodwill store in south Barrie.
Operated by Chad Smith, he and his wife worked at Goodwill for 24 years, until the closure in January of 16 locations by Goodwill Industries of Toronto, Eastern, Central and Northern Ontario
This affected about 60 workers at two stores in Barrie and one in Orillia.
Smith acquired the assets from the south Barrie store and the Orillia Goodwill.
While his focus is on Barrie, he says he would not have purchased in Orillia had he not had plans to expand one day.
Smith says there continues to be a market for thrift stores from those who need affordable goods and those who simply enjoy bargain hunting.
He has hired about half a dozen former Goodwill employees to operate the 12,000 square foot store on Bryne Drive.
There is also a covered area beside the store where people can drop off donations.
The store sells used clothing, housewares, small electronics, books, shoes and more.
