It’s Pink Shirt Day!
Students and staff at area schools are encouraged to wear pink today.
The annual campaign raises awareness of bullying in schools and raises donations to support local anti-bullying programs that teach empathy, compassion & kindness.
The theme for this year’s Pink Shirt Day is “Lift each other up”; a simple but powerful message encouraging us to look beyond our differences and celebrate the things that make us unique.
Bullying Canada says one in five kids is affected by bullying.
Pink Shirt Day began in Nova Scotia in 2007 with a group of high school students rallying around a fellow student, who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, so they bought 50 pink shirts to hand out at school the next day.
