Orillia Sports Hall of Fame Dinner/Induction Ceremony postponed
Sport Orillia has decided to postpone the annual Orillia Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction.
The event had been slated for April 18 at Hawk Ridge Golf and Country Club. A new date will be announced at a later time.
The decision was made due to concerns about having such a large gathering during the COVID-19 outbreak. Health Canada has recommended that large groups should not meet in wake of growing concerns about spreading the virus.
“This event is really important to us and the community, but nothing is more important than the health and welfare of our citizens,” said Mike Ladouceur, chair of the Sport Orillia board.
Ladouceur said it only made sense to change the date.
“We are grateful Hawk Ridge was willing and able to accommodate this postponement and we know the event will be just as meaningful when we have it, hopefully later this year,” said Ladouceur.
This year’s class of inductees include Dave Town, Bill Watters and Wayne Dowswell.
The annual Breakfast of Champions, which honours the top student athletes from each local secondary school, is traditionally held the same week at the Sports Hall of Fame Dinner. That event has also been postponed.
