Canadian Army Training On Barrie, Collingwood and Wasaga Beach Area Roads

Expect to see plenty of military vehicles on area roads over the next couple of days.

Canadian Army Reserve personnel from 31 Service Battalion, Hamilton Support Company will conduct convoy training from March 25-27 within the following areas: Hamilton, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden, Alliston, Caledon, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, & Clarksburg.

Activities will include vehicle training on planned routes between Hamilton and CFB Borden, within CFB Borden’s training area, and the surrounding areas. No dismounted drills are planned, unless maintenance is required.

All activities will happen Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Members of the public may see military vehicles on the following highways: 401, 403, 400, 407, Hwy 50, County Rd 15,Ontario 89 E, County Rd 10, and Oak St in Collingwood. 

31 Service Battalion is a unit from the Canadian Army’s 31 Canadian Brigade Group, and is a unique element of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) whose task is to augment Canada’s military by providing Combat Service Support soldiers in the following Lines of Operation: Operational readiness to respond to a domestic operation within 24 hours when Canadians are in danger; ability to operate effectively in a Full Spectrum of Operations, especially a combat environment; and the provision of a high standard of technical services to all CAF assets in our area of responsibility. 

31 Service Battalion has approximately 400 soldiers, both Regular Force and Reserve Force. The Battalion is organized into a Battalion HQ, a HQ Company, four Support Companies and a Technical  Services Platoon located in London, and with support companies in Windsor and Hamilton. 

This important training is being conducted in order to keep Canadian Army members’ skills including convoy drills, resupply and driver discipline current, while operating specific vehicle platforms. All soldiers participating will be practicing Force Health Protection Measures based on and in addition to Public Health guidelines. 

All measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience to those in the areas mentioned. Members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles and are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation.
