The deadline for those who want to get their name in for the October municipal election is fast-approaching.
Potential candidates have until 2 PM this Friday afternoon.
In Orillia, there is the Mayor seat and 8 Councillor seats available (2 in each of the four wards).
The City's Deputy Clerk Janet Nyhof says interested individuals must have at least 25 signatures to be formally registered as a candidate.
She says once they bring that in to the Clerk's office, they can begin with the paperwork.
Nyhof says candidates must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age or older.
She says the candidate must either reside, own property, or be a spouse of the property owner in that municipality in order to qualify to run in that municipal election.
For example, if you want to run for a seat on Orillia Council, you must live or own property in Orillia.
Nyhof says she expects a lot of people to come to City Hall and file their nomination papers prior to the Friday 2 PM deadline.
She says there were 10 people who signed up in that final week for the 2014 municipal election.
