We're getting a better idea of what the ransomware attack on the town of Wasaga Beach's computers cost.
A staff report, which was received by council on Tuesday night, says the town paid almost 35 thousand dollars to get the town's data back.
The attackers had originally asked for 11 Bitcoins which is worth just over 144 thousand dollars.
But they accepted 3 Bitcoins which is the $34,950 that was paid.
For about seven weeks, town staff worked with computer experts to recover from the virus by rebuilding a new network and installing new hardware and software infrastructure as well as other measures.
The town paid just over 37 thousand dollars to the consultants involved in that work.
Other related expenses include IT purchases and 3rd party software vendors as well as staff overtime. That latter amount is $31,370.
