The OPP's Long Weekend traffic campaign is underway for the Civic Day holiday.
Ontario Provincial Police say they're conducting the “Move Over Campaign” and hope motorists will follow the laws and slow down and move over when approaching an emergency vehicle with lights flashing.
932 move over charges have been laid by OPP this year for drivers not doing that, and they say that's too many drivers continuing to ignore the rules putting our first responders in danger.
The number of charges has gone up from almost 1,600 in 2014, to 2,137 last year.
The law carries a $400 to $2,000 fine, plus three demerit points upon conviction, and even possible jail time.
