After a year of consultations and hand-wringing over the future of hospitals in Muskoka, the board of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare has endorsed a task force recommendation for two acute sites.
Board Chair Phil Matthews says the board is pleased to bring closure to the burning question on everyone's mind–one site or two.
In a statement, the board said the two acute sites—in Bracebridg and Huntsville–will continue to provide high-quality acute care service that people can access closer to home with reasonable travel times, is flexible enough to accomodate future needs, and is supported by the greater community.
This replaces a 2015 recommendation for one hospital.
