The Ontario government announced today it will be spend $182 million to cover the cost of construction of nine new OPP detachments including one in Orillia.
The province says the new facilities will remedy inefficiencies due to obsolete design and technology, as well as a lack of space.
The current detachment is in a cramped and outdated building on Peter Street South.
Construction is expected to begin this fall with completion in late 2020.
The Orillia OPP detatchment will be built at Old Barrie Road and University Avenue.
