Could there be fewer farmers and more vendors at the Downtown Orillia Farmers' market?
A report from the Farmers' Market Management Committee was delivered to Council Committee on Monday (24th) looking to explore that idea.
The Downtown Orillia Farmers' Market is said to be a traditional farmer's market and requires farmers and producers make up at least 50 percent of the market in order to maintain that designation.
Councillor Sarah Valiquette-Thompson says there is going to be a working group formed that will explore the idea of doing away with the quota.
She says this will open the market for all artisans to sell their wares.
Valiquette-Thompson says there isn't enough farmers or producers in our area that can take up the space.
She says there are a lot of artisans who want to be a part of the farmers' market but they have to turn them away.
Valiquette-Thompson says the main issue is to find ways to make the market full and bustling.
She says the group will explore all options in order to maximize all efforts.
