A local church would like to see the homeless use the facilities at the yet-to-be completed recreation centre in Orillia.
Members of the St. David Anglican-Lutheran Church drafted a letter to the City of Orillia asking to set aside one day a week where homeless men and women can shower and change.
The letter was delivered to Orillia Council at Monday's Council Committee meeting and was received as information.
The City's Manager of Recreation Services Marsha Russell says right now their focus is getting the building open and see how it operates.
She says once that is done they will look at accommodating requests from groups and organizations.
Russell says the church recognizes there is a need in the community.
She says the recreation centre can provide that opportunity and can help the church with their need.
Russell says the City is open to working with community groups.
She says if the group can help coordinate the initiative, then the City is more than willing to help them.
