Orillia OPP are warning the public of a jewelry scam.
They say there are people posing as poor or downtrodden, often with small children or animals, who approach individuals offering them jewelry in exchange for cash.
The good-natured citizen is convinced and hands over the cash for the jewelry.
But when the person goes to a pawn shop to resell the item, they find out that the jewelry is actually worthless.
Police are advising those not to hand over large sums of cash and to instead contact police or Crime Stoppers.
