The City of Orillia will go ahead with building a sanitary sewer pumping station on Cedar Island Road.
After having it postponed for several weeks, Council finally ratified the decision to go with the preferred location at Monday night's meeting.
The decision to ratify was delayed after several nearby residents addressed concerns about having the $4 Million pumping station on Cedar Island Road.
Councillor Tim Lauer says there will be a new Council elected on October 22nd and that new Council may have different ideas as to where the pumping station should go.
But he says by approving the location of the pumping station, it keeps the process going.
Lauer says there is still another 6 months before the project is confirmed as it still requires an environmental study.
He says there is also an appeal process and if there is an appeal made then it goes to the Ministry of the Environment.
Lauer says he would prefer approving it now rather than leaving the decision in the hands of the new Council.
He says this way if there is an appeal and if there are environmental issues, they will find out soon.
