A third of students in Simcoe Muskoka are not taking advantage of a cancer prevention vaccine.
The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is free to all grade 7 students, but the local health unit says only 68 per cent of students in Simcoe County are getting it, the number is even lower in Muskoka.
Health officials say HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that is responsible for almost all cervical cancer cases, as well as mouth, anal and throat cancers.
It's estimated 75 per cent of Canadians will be infected with HPV in their lifetime.
HPV prevention week is ends October 7.
