Premier Doug Ford took several swipes at the Trudeau government's legalization of marijuana during remarks to the Ontario Police Association Annual General Meeting.
Speaking in the Collingwood-area this morning, Ford said nobody in the room asked for cannabis to be legalized and it was 'thrust upon us' by the federal government.
Acknowledging it is unchartered territory, the premier said Justin Trudeau ran around during the federal election campaign boasting how great it would be after the Liberals made cannabis legal, and now that it's happening, Ford said the prime minister isn't boastful anymore, noting 'they can't even find the guy.'
He said Justin Trudeau has been a no show when it comes to defending his plans for cannabis.
Ford received applause when he suggested the PM might as well be in the witness protection program.
The premier also lashed out at the federal government for not providing police with a reliable piece of equipment to test for drug impaired driving.
Ford said by rushing legal cannabis out of the door before ensuring police have the tools they need, he said the Trudeau Liberals are putting people at risk.
He demanded the Liberals get the police the tools they need to keep roads safe.
The premier said his PC government had adopted a careful and measured approach to legal marijuana, first with online sales through the Ontario Cannabis Store, and then retail outlets next April.
