Police will no longer be the subject of investigations for using naxalone.
Dufferin Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones made the announcement this morning.
Jones, who is also the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services says officers shouldn't face unfair repercussions for doing their job.
She says the amendment will allow officers to save lives without the fear of facing a criminal investigation and will save countless lives.
Jones added that this is just part of the Ontario Governments plan to fix Bill 175 including a full review of the Police Services Act.
Prior to the amendment, it was mandatory for the Special Investigations Unit to investigate officers if a civilian died following a naxalone administration.
Chiefs of Police will no longer need to automatically notify the SIU when an officer uses naxalone and a person dies.
That's unless there's another cause that could have lead to the death.
