A three phase process to replace the docks at the Port of Orillia looks to be put on the backburner for the time being.
Council voted to not award a contract on the tender recommended by City Staff and this decision will be ratified at the next council meeting.
The cost of the tender for the first phase was just over 532-thousand dollars and the estimated cost of the entire three-phase project is just over 2-point-2 million dollars.
The first phase of the project was electrical and water upgrades that would have included a stand alone building to house the electrical components.
Orillia Mayor Angelo Orsi felt that the proposed building was not complimentray to the vision of a revitalized waterfont.
Mayor Orsi says that a revitalized waterfront was a key part of his campaign for Mayor and he wants to see the process done right.
He says that the waterfront is an investment for the city that can help drive tourism.
City Councillor Paul Spears was the lone councillor to vote against the motion.
Spears argued that to delay the project would only serve to make it cost more money.
