Local citizens had an opportuntiy to voice their questions and concerns regarding the next federal budget at a public meeting held by Simcoe North Conservative MP Bruce Stanton.
The meeting was held last night in the Orillia Council Chambers and is one of five meetings that Stanton will hold with local constituents concerning the budget.
Some of the main issues addressed at the meeting were agriculture, the environment, taxes and care for seniors, but the item most often addressed was the Canadian Pension Plan.
Stanton says the issue of pensions is one that is growing, and it is firmly on his government’s agenda.
Stanton says a common theme for the evening was that citizens want the government to be accountable for how they handle taxpayer dollars.
He says that the government must be mindful on how much of the tax burden is placed upon Canadians.
Stanton says its important to give local citizens a chance to give their thoughts on how their money is spent.
He tries to get out in the community as much as possible to hear their concerns.
A report of the meeting will be sent to all contributors who request it, and it will be available online at www.brucestanton.ca.
For those who missed his first meeting, a second pre budget meeting will be held Thursday in Midland at the Royal Canadian legion, begining at 7 pm.
