Plans by the Simcoe county district School board to close a rural school in Moonstone not sitting well with the MPP for Simcoe North.
Garfield Dunlop says the scheduled closure of that Moonstone Elementary School goes against the Liberal governmenbts pledge to make communites stronger.
He says you dont do that by closing small rural schools and busing kids more than 50 kilometers to large mega schools.
The School board has approved a pupil accommodation review beginning in September in the north elementary planning review area that includes Coldwater Public School, Moonstone Elementary School and Warminster Public School.
Under the accomidation review, board staff are recommending closing Moonstone and providing capital improvements to Coldwater and Warminster schools.
Moonstone students would then be relocated to the remaining two schools
Dunlop says that simply is not acceptable.
He says there has to be a resolution to this problem that would allow these smaller schools to remain open.
