A new logo but the same message about snowmobile safety.
The Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario Federation of Snowmobile clubs today unveiled a new logo for the Snowmobile Trail Officer Patrol at OPP headquarters here in Orillia.
Chief Superintendent Bill Grodzinski, Commander, OPP Highway Safety Division says Snowmobilers will now find it easier to distinguish a volunteer S.T.O.P. officer from an OPP officer on OFSC trails this winter.
Snow mobile operators will now be better able to tell who is a trail officer and who is an OPP officer.
S.T.O.P. officers are OFSC volunteers who earn appointment as Special Constables and designation as Provincial Offences Officers.
Grodzinski says the STOP officers have the authority to enforce the rules on OFSC prescribed trails.
Grodzinski says while they perform their duties with an OPP officer much of the time, they can operate unsupervised if fully trained.
Off the trails, S.T.O.P. officers provide education and awareness about snowmobile safety in Ontario.
