Smokers in Orillia and area have an even bigger incentive to kick the habit other than improved health.
They could win a new car or a vacation.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit once again taking part in the Driven to Quit Challenge.
Public Health Nurse Shawna Frolick says if a smoker can butt out for the entire month of March, they could be in the running to win a new Honda Hybrid or one of two five thousand dollar get away vacations or one of seven 2 thosuand dollar Mastercard gift cards.
To take part in the quit smoking contest, a person has to be over the age of 19, have a quit buddy to help them over the tough times, and its vital to have a plan in place as to what you will do when you get the urge to light up.
Frolick says a person should set a quit date.
Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about products and services that can help and start cutting down as you get closer to your quit date.
She says when a craving strikes, use the four Ds, Delay, Drink Water, Deep Breathe and Distract yourself (do something else).
Frolick says any serious about quiting can enter the contest on line at www.driventoquit.ca
