Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop is going to bat for local slaughterhouses in their fight against ever changing regulations that threaten to put them out of business.
Dunlop will meet with five companies in the meat processing industry this coming Thursday to try and find a strategy to best address their interests.
Dunlop says that the ministries involved in regulating the industry are not looking out for small business owners, but rather large companies involved in the process.
Dunlop says that a number of people in the industry are afraid to speak out because they fear backlash from inspectors.
He says that the ministry uses indimidation tactics to try and influence compliance.
Dunlop says that its a very difficult issue that has led constiuents to call his office in tears.
He worries that it will drive a number of slaughterhouses out of business and that is not the Ontario he has grown up in.
