Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop putting partisan politics aside to wish Barrie Liberal MPP Aileen Carroll all the best as she leaves the political arena.
Carroll has announced she will not be seeking reelection in the October Provincial Election and behalf of his staff, his wife Jane Dunlop wants to thank Aileen for her service to the country, province and the City of Barrie.
Carroll began her political career in 1995 as an alderman for the City of Barrie. She was elected as MP in the 1997 federal election and was re-elected in 2000 and again in 2004. In 2007, she successfully ran in the provincial election.
Dunlop says over the years he has gotten to know Carroll, she has been a very dedicated and respected member of the legislature and the community.
He says Carroll’s vast knowledge, experience and her political savvy are appreciated and will be difficult to replace.
Carroll is just the latest in a large number of veteran Liberal MPP who have announced they wont be running again in the fall election.
That list includes the speaker of the legislature Steve Peters,Monique Smith and David Ramsay.
Dunlop speculates that many of these politicians are simply tired of politics and are not willing to take part in what could be a very difficult election campaign.
He also feels that some of these senior politicians just are not prepared to fight for Dalton McQuinty any more and feel the Conservatives could well form the next government.
