Sunday was the fifth anniversary of Stepen Harper being elected Prime Minister and both he and Simcoe North Conservative Mp Bruce Stanton agree that Canada is more united, stronger, safer and more prosperous after five years of minority Conservative rule.
Stanton says while Canada came through the global recession in pretty good shape, they still have to focus their efforts in future on job creation and the economy.
He says the main priority is to ensure that taxes stay in check and there are no tax increases which he says would put the recovery in jeopardy.
Stanton also took a shot at the Opposition parties who are spending their time electioneering rather than dealing with the serious issues facing Canadians.
He says there are about 40 bills before Parliament that both the Government and Opposition should be dealing with in addition to the upcoming budget which is expected in a month or so.
Stanton says his two rounds of pre budget consultation with people in the riding generated some very usefull information and ideas that he will present to the Minister of Finance.
Some of those suggestions include keeping taxes down and get the Country back into a balanced budget situation which is expected to occurr by about 2015.
