That big Groundhog day winter storm heading our way is still a day away, but local police already issuing warnings and advice for motorists.
Constable Peter Leon of the Central OPP region, which includes Orillia, says people should first listen to the local weather forcasts and radio stations to determine what the weather is bringing and whether is wise to venture outside.
He also says its important motorists top up their windshield washer tanks and make sure they have a full tank of gas in their vehicle and also make sure you have an emergency road side kit just in case you do get stranted.
Constable Leon says that emergency kit should include a blanket, some water and snacks and extra winter clothing.
He also says make sure your cell phone is fully charged, because if you do get in trouble then at least you can call for help.
Constabler Leon says in the event you do become stranded, stick with your vehilce, and only get outside from time to time to clear the snow away from the cars exhaust so you can can keep running to keep you warm.
Police are urging motorists to drive for the conditions, use common sense — and stay off roads that have been closed.
Motorists are also being advised that if conditions appear risky, they should consider staying off the roads.
