Orillia City Council has chosen to reopen the Orillia Community CentreĀ for a trial project in February and March.
A recommendation was put forward by City recreation staff to rent out the community centre for dryland uses such as indoor soccer, lacrosse and other sports.
The proposed trial period would last two months.
The Community Centre was closed in January of 2009 for structural concerns that the city has since addressed at considerable cost.
It is estimated that it will cost 3-thousand dollars to get to Community Centre ready for the trial period.
Orillia City Councillor Andrew Hill is a supporter of the plan.
He says its important for the city to make use of its current facilities instead of concentrating on a new one.
The City Parks and Recreation Department is going to charge a reduced rental rate during the trial period.
The reduced rate should allow the City to break even on the project.
