Green Haven Shelter for Women is looking to the community for help today.
Join them for an evening of fun and fundraising tonight at the Aladdin Banquet Hall on Missasauga St in Orillia.
Executive director at Green Haven Liz Wescott explains nights like these are essential in helping them raise their yearly fundraising goal of $150 000.
Wescott says that with operating costs of $650,000 per year they rely on the community to fill the gaps left by their service contract with the ministry.
Wescott says Orillia has been a fantastic supporter of the Shelter over it’s nearly 20 years in the community, but she recognizes they aren’t the only charity in town that needs a helping hand.
Wescott says the shelter provides residential support for nearly 85-90 women and 75-80 children, and they respond to between 900-1000 crisis calls each year.
Green Haven provides a 24 hour crisis line, emergency refuge for women and children suffering abuse, along with numerous support programs.
Tickets are available at the door – the event starts at 8pm – the band goes on at 9pm.
