A strong start as far as construction is concerned in Orillia for the new year.
While the number of building permits in January are down a bit from last year, the value of those permits is up substantially from a year ago.
18 building permits have been issued so far this year compared to 23 last January, but the big difference is in construction value.
The construction value of this Januarys permits total more than 17.1 million dollars.
That is a substantial increase over the same time a year ago when the value of building permits issues totalled 857 thousand dollars.
What pushed up this years numbers was in the institutional area where building permits worth more than 16 million dollars have been issued.
On the residential side, the value of permits issued this year are worth just over 526 thousand dollars comparet to 449 thosuand dollars worth of permits issued last January.
