More residents in Simcoe County could soon be surfing the net via High speed internet.
It’s all because Tiny Township application for Broadband has resulted in a 668 thousand dollar boost from the Province for the Countys internet initiative.
Simcoe County, together with municipal partners, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Bell Aliant, launched the initiative in 2009 to reduce broadband infrastructure gaps in rural southern Ontario.
Tiny Township made an application under the Provinces Ontario’s Rural Connections Broadband Program and Ray Miller, the Township mayor says they are pleased this funding opportunity will improve high speed connectivity in rural areas.
The $668 thousand dollars in additional funding was approved last week and is the final phase of a multi-year initiative
Residents and business owners across Simcoe County are strongly encouraged to register on the Countys Rural Connections website if they are still without access to high speed Internet services.
By registering with the program, residents will be able to directly influence the final locations of the new broadband services.
OMAFRA requires all outstanding Rural Connections initiatives to be completed by March 2012.
