Despite demand increases of more then 30% the Orillia Sharing Place is doing well.
When compared to other locations across the province Don Evans, the executive director at the Sharing Place, says they are very lucky to have such great support from the community, which enables them to keep their shelves stocked.
Evans says the incredible amount of support from the community each year literally keeps them open.
However, higher demand and a lack of parking has caused the board to start a search for a new location.
After careful consideration the Sharing Place Board decided they will not join Orillia’s Common Roof project due to “cost considerations.”
The food bank has outgrown its building at 22 West St. S. and hopes to rent or buy a heated, warehouse-type space of about 4,000 square feet.
In the meantime they are in no rush, Evans says they have an excellent relationship with their current landlord, they simply need a bigger location, with more parking to better serve the community.
