Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop thinks he knows why more and more politicians are opting out of running again in this fall election.
He says the demands of the job have increased dramatically over the past few years because of social media and many politicians simply cant take the pressure.
Dumlop says the pressures are only growing and many members of the Legislatrure are putting in 60 and 70 hour weeks
He also says technology and social media are not making the job any easier, with MPP and their staff having to deal with hundreds of letters and e mails on a daily basis.
Dunlop feels for that reason many MPP are deciding to leAve politics to spend more time with the families, or return to less stressfull jobs in the private sectorn.
Dunlops comments come as yet another MPP has announced they wont be running again in the october election.
Burlington Progressive Conservative Joyce Savoline has issued a statement saying she has made what she calls a “very difficult decision” not to run again.
Savoline, the Tories’ Municipal Affairs and Housing critic, was first elected to the Ontario legislature in a February, 2007 byelection and won re-election later that fall.
Veteran Conservatives Bill Murdoch and Gerry Martiniuk have also announced they won’t seek re-election Oct. 6, while at least nine Liberals have also said they too won’t be on the ballot.
