There are six SIU investigators north of Owen Sound today (TUES) looking into a Police shootout that left one man dead.
It all started after a suspect at Grew Boats Manufacturing on Highway 6 and 10 south of Owen Sound led Grey County OPP on a chase to Kemble last night.
SIU Communications Commander Frank Phillips tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have four investigators and two forensic investigators on the scene.
Phillips confirms they are focusing on the area where the shootout occurred on the Taylor Side Road in Georgian Bluffs — and the forest area where a man was found dead.
That area remains cordoned off for the investigation.
Sources say the owner of Grew Boats was the man killed — but the SIU and OPP will not confirm that news.
No name has been released yet.
Grey County OPP were initially called to Grew Boats on Highway 6 and 10 after reports of a shooting of a male employee — but there is no indication from Police that someone was shot at that business.
Bayshore Broadcasting News has learned that a man was airlifted to a London hospital after being shot in the arm. There’s no word on his condition.
As officers were setting up a containment area around the business Monday night — they noticed a pickup truck leave the property and that is when the pursuit started.
Police deployed a spike belt and the vehicle stopped on the Taylor Side Road in Georgian Bluffs just before 10 PM.
Police then reported the male driver exited the vehicle with a firearm and got into a shootout with officers on the scene.
According to the OPP — a number of shots were fired but no officers were injured — and the suspect fled the scene on foot.
The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit and the OPP Canine Unit located the suspect a short time later and found the man dead.
