Orillia Council were all ears this past week when a presentation was made about planting hundreds of sugar maple trees in the city and surrounding townships.
The presentation was made by the Huronia Woodlands Owners Association who have been involved in replanting and replacing old and dying maple trees throughout the county for several years.
The Chair, Bruce Keeling told council that to date they have provided thousands of trees to be planted in Simcoe county and this year they expect to add an additional 22 hundred trees to the region.
He told council that last year more than 200 of the sugar maples were planted in the City by indviduals, schools and senior homes.
Keeling says he considers the trees to be oxygen generators that do a lot to improve the enviornment in and around Orillia.
The Huronia Woodlands Owners Association put in a request to council for just over two thousand dollars to help purchase more trees to be sold, at a discounted rate this spring.
Council has passed on that request to the parks and recreation department for comment and recommendation.
