Georgian College’s CEO says he’s still hoping for some money from municipalities for construction of the new campus in Collingwood, although none will come this year from the town.
Brian Tamblin says the walls are up and the roof is on the 8-million dollar facility under construction at the corners of Raglan Street and Poplar Sideroad.
Earlier this week, Collingwood’s Budget Chair removed all funding for Georgian from the town’s budget. The college had requested 250-thousand dollars each year for four years.
Rick Lloyd says the town simply couldn’t afford to help the college, since Collingwood is attempting to have a tax decrease this year.
Tamblin says the next stop for Georgian will be a meeting of Simcoe County Council, where he says he hopes the county will be persuaded to contribute to the campus.
He says municipalities are in a cash crunch this year, but no one is doubting the benefits of having a college campus in Collingwood.
