A new incubation office in Orillia hopes to help make the city more desirable for family physicians.
Pat Thor, the Project Coordinator from the Orillia & Area Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee says the office will offer a ‘turn key’ environment for newly graduated family doctors.
Thor explains that the fully furnished and equipped incubation office will allow for confidence-building in both the professional and business aspect of developing a practice.
The office will be used on a rotation basis as new doctors locate in our community, usually for about one-year periods, and may be shared between two physicians.
There has not been a specific Dr named to be the first to rent out this space, but Thor says they are working on a few leads and hopes to have someone in place shortly.
Thor says it was a team effort between her office and the Orillia Family Health Network that began back in 2010 that helped bring the facility to the city.
The Incubation office received federal funding as a part of the Economic Action Plan in support of local projects and is administered through the Orillia and Area Community Development Corporation.
