A special meeting today between Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop, Simcoe County Municipal leaders and a lawyer involved in Municipal affairs.
Dunlop says this meeting is to talk about the controversial Simcoe County Growth Plan and the Provinces amendment that lowers the growth projectections below what the County wants.
Its also going to deal with the fact the Province has appointed a facilitator to review parts of the proposed amendment.
The facilitator is to report back with recommendations to the Minister of Infrastructure by November 1, 2011.
Dunlop says the government sat on this Growth Plan for 18 months, and during that time, even as far back as 2009, the County of Simcoe asked the Liberals to appoint a facilitator and they never did.
He says the one hand I thank the Minister for listening and not passing the amendments but on the other hand I am concerned that he has delayed his decision until after the October provincial election.
Dunlop says by the end of January the government received 173 submissions from real estate, construction, and developers opposed to the Growth Plan and upset that it was being micro managed.
The Simcoe County Growth Plan is part of a provincial plan which acknowledges that all of Simcoe County is growing.
The population is forecast to reach about 670,000 people by 2031, a 52 per cent increase from the county’s 437,100 population in 2006.
