Orillia’s Soldiers Memorial Hospital has embarked on its 2011-12 Quality Improvement plan.
Shawn Bishop is the Quality and Patient Safety Co Ordinator at the hospital and says this plan will focus on a number of safety, effectiveness, accessibility and patient focused targets that will improve the quality of care they deliver and safety for staff.
He says this is part of the Provinces Excellent Care for all Act.
Under the act, all hospitals are required to establish quality committees and develop annual quality improvement plans that target the areas of safety, effectiveness, accessibility and patient focus.
Priorities identified in the QIP include: hand hygiene; patient falls; the use of a safety checklist before surgery; the amount of time spent in the emergency department before getting an inpatient bed; patients needing an alternate level of care and staff injuries.
He says the public can check out and review the plan on their website at www.osmh.on.ca.
