The deadline is quickly approaching for High School students to take part in this years Kiwanis of Orillia Laws of Life Essay Writing Contest.
This Friday is the date all essays must be submitted.
The competition is an opportunity for high school students through Orillia and North Simcoe County to share the thoughts, ideals and values most important to them.
Over 200 essays are expected to be submitted this year.
Essays are judged on three criteria: is a law of life identified, how well is it defined and developed , and what is the overall impact of the essay .
Judging is done in three rounds: preliminary judges read each essay and grade them, then each preliminary judge selects 4 essays from both junior and senior divisions, all of which go on to the next round.
The second round of judging sees the top two picks from each judge make it to the final round.
The final round of judging sees awards for First, Second and Third place, plus several runners up from each division. An additional $100 will be awarded to each high school English Department submitting 4 or more essays.
Winning essays are published and distributed throughout the area.
Each participant will receive a Kiwanis certificate, PLUS the English Department of each first place winner will receive an additional cash prize and a plaque to display in his or her school for the next school year.
