Orillia could be getting a 10 thousand villages store in the not to distant future.
That is the word from Monica Moore of the fair trade group who attended the Habitat for Humanity Annual General Meeting last week.
She says a number of people in her church are exploring the idea of opening up a fair trade store in the downtown area, but it is just in the idea stage at this point in time.
Moore says this would be a very major undertaking as they would need a huge crew of volunteers to operate the store.
She says people in the Orillia area and elsewhere are really getting interested in supporting the fair trade concept and they completely sold out at their fall sale last year.
Moore says that like Habitat for Humanity, they offer people in the third world a hand up, not a hand out.
She says by offering artisans a fair price for their work they are able to improve their lives to the point many times they can support a family or even build a home.
