The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic School Board has received the green light to replace Monsignor Lee Catholic School located on Fittons Road in Orillia.
The Director of Communications for the Catholic Board, Diane Legg says construction on the 10.4 million dollar school could begin late this fall and could be open in the fall of 2012, if everything goes according to plan.
She says once the new school is built, students from Guardian Angels and Monsignor Lee Catholic Schools will be coming together in a state-of-the-art new school that will be very environmentally friendly.
Legg says the current Monsignor Lee School will be demolished, and the students there will be relocated to another facility while the new school is being constructed.
She says the new school will be built to a very high environmental standard with energy-efficient windows and doors, daylight and occupancy sensors on interior lighting, VOC-free carpeting, low-VOC paints and interior wood, low-flow toilets, drought-resistant landscaping and bicycle parking for students and staff.
In addition there will be a very safe area for the school buses to drop off the students, which will be separate from the actual parking lot for the school.
