Four people are being honoured for their work as communicators in times of crisis.
The Simcoe County 9-1-1 Management Board Public Safety Community Safety Awards pay tribute to those who answer and dispatch 9-1-1 calls.
Board Chair Cathy Clark says the awards celebrate the work of the 9-1-1 dispatchers – who are responsible for ensuring the right help arrives as soon as possible and are often the voices of calm who stay on the line until help arrives.
Paul Dorval with CFB Borden Military Police received the Communicator of the Year award while Ryan Macdonald and Amanda Wickham of Barrie Fire and Emergency Services received the Team Award.
New on the awards list is the 9-1-1 Youth Award – which went to 10 year old James Slok of Innisfill.
Slok is being recognized for his quick action in calling 9-1-1 during a traumatic event involving his mother.
Clark says all those who recognized are proud of their awards and the mood during the ceremony was very positive.
