Despite the cold, wet and windy conditions, Orillia’s 30th annual Perch Festival is doing very well.
Festival Organizer Doug Bunker says there have been lots of anglers out on the water and they are catching a lot of fish.
He says a lot of tagged perch have been caught as well including the Sunshine 89.1 fish which was caught by Orillia resident Jason Hayes.
Each tagged fish is worth 500 dollars.
Bunker says they released 72 tagged fish this year and so far 7 have been caught.
However he says two Casino Rama tagged fish worth 3 thousand dollars each have not yet been landed.
Bunker says its a bit frustrating for the anglers, because of the clarity of the water, people can actually see the tagged perch but catching it is an entirely different matter.
The Perch Festival runs until May 7th, and Bunker says people can register to take part right up until the last day of the festival.
