The Opera House will be closed May 2nd through to the 20th as their lobby gets a new look.
General Manager Krista Storey says they are aiming for a hotel concierge look.
She says the renovations will make the lobby more welcoming.
Storey adds they’ll also be adding two new chandeliers over the grand staircase.
As a result of the renovations, the Ticketmaster office currently located at the Leacock Home will move to the Opera House lobby.
A brand new box office will provide expanded space to serve theatre-goers, including those with special needs – the wheelchair accessible box-office includes computer monitors on arms that can be lowered.
The new accessibility features add to the barrier-free washroom that was put in last year.
Last year’s improvements also included new carpeting, painting and repairs to the ceiling above the grand staircase and in the north turret.
The renovation budget includes $17,000 for the chandeliers and wall sconces, $20,000 for the box office accessibility renovation and $10,000 for paint.
Further repairs to the plaster are also on the agenda but depend on costs and money available within the budget.
The Opera House box office will be operating on the main floor of City Hall while the building is under renovation.
