This years Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour has been awarded to author Trevor Cole for his book Practical Jean.
He received the honour Thursday afternoon at a special ceremony in Orillia.
Cole not only receives the medal, he also picked up a 15 thousand dollar cash prize provided by TD Bank Group.
Cole says his book is about housewife Jean Horemarsh as she comes to grips with the loss of her mother and at the same time try to keep her family together.
He says during the last year he has experienced some personal challenges and the writing of this book was one way to overcome those issues.
Cole admits winning this prize is a dream come true because he has been following the Leacock awards for a number of years and is honoured to be this years winner.
Also nominated for this years award were Todd Babiak forĀ his book Toby a Man, Terry Fallis for the High Road, Red Green for How to do everything and David Rakoff for Half Empty.
They each receive 15 hundred dollars for their prize.
