Mixed reaction from the second and third place candidates in Simcoe Grey.
Independent Helena Guergis says she isn’t surprised she came in third behind the NDP.
She says running as an independent is very difficult anywhere and she took on the “big blue machine”
which is a tough task.
Guergis adds she’s happy she took a stand and got the message out that the way she was treated by Prime Minister Stephen Harper is wrong. He booted her from cabinet and caucus a year ago.
The former Simcoe Grey MP says thank you to her staff, supporters and all those who voted
for her.
What’s next for Helena Guergis? She says a speaking tour and she’s writing a book, particularly focusing on the last year which she says was
the hardest of her life.
She tells us she’s getting out of politics and can no longer support the Federal Conservative party with Stephen Harper as
leader.
As for second place in Simcoe Grey, NDP candidate Katy Austin says she is quite surprised by the decision of local voters.
She says she is happy though that the NDP now have a strong foothold toward the next election and that the NDP went from 11 to 20 percent in Simcoe Grey.
Austin is worried, though, about the Conservatives getting a national majority.
She feels the Conservatives will now think they can do what they want and won’t have to worry about what the other parties
say.
