A visibly deflated Steve Clarke expressed heavy reluctance to run again in the next federal election.
Clarke, finishing third in the riding of Simcoe North behind the NDP’s Richard Bannigan and returning Conservative MP Bruce Stanton, does not see a scenario in which he would run again – but he has not made a firm decision on his political future.
Clarke expressed surprise at his third place finish – and even more so at the Liberal Party performance nationwide.
Perhaps most shocking to Clarke is the surge in NDP support – though he was gracious in his praise of Richard Bannigan for his showing.
Clarke calls the performance at the polls of Liberal leader Michael Ignatief “unfortunate.”
