Quite an honour for the small legal department of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation.
It is sharing the social responsibility award, a new category in the annual Canadian General Counsel Awards.
The award, which is supported by Ogilvy Renault and the Ontario Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, recognizes in-house legal teams that demonstrate a sustained commitment to making a difference to the community through the promotion of pro bono work, diversity initiatives or both.
The legal department at RBC is the other winner of the award.
The small legal team at Rama Nation is recognized for undertaking initiatives designed to bridge the gap between Western legal principles and native traditions.
