The placement of hydro lines along Cowan Street here in Orillia will be looked at once again by council.
A a motion calling for more information from Orillia Power and the Parks and Recreation Department only narrowly passed.
Some Councillors around the table wanted to deal with the issue right now – while others wanted to give the public more time to digest the plan and, perhaps more importantly, consider the alternatives.
Ward Four Councillor Tony Madden says there have been some concerns expressed by residents of Cowan Street – specifically about the lack of consultation.
Madden wants council to be presented with the more information about the plan – and the alternatives which include running the cable along Millennium Trail.
That opens a whole new set of arguments – namely the cutting down of young trees and brush to accommodate the hydro line.
Council will also look at the possibility of burying the cable.
The issue will be up for debate at the May 30th meeting of council during which councillors will decide on their preference.
