Orillia City Council has voted to go ahead with the hydro line along Millennium Trail.
The issue was to be dealt with a few council meetings ago but was deferred to this week’s council meeting.
Council was given four options with regard to some needed hydro line upgrades – upgrade the lines on Cowan Street, bury the cable along Cowan Street, upgrade the line along Millennium Trail, or moving the line along Millennium Trail closer to the actual trail.
Councillor Andrew Hill was one of the councillors in favour of option three – saying Cowan Street is too small for the kind of upgrade being talked about.
Councillor Michael Fogarty also supports option three – he believes completing the upgrade on Cowan Street will bring down property values on that street.
Councillor Tony Madden voted in favour of option one as he believes upgrading the lines along Millennium Trail will upset the residents who regularly use the trail.
In the end, Council decided to go with option three – upgrade the lines along Millennium Trail.
Councillor Madden believes that decision will come back to haunt council in the future.
